Therefore, it is not a category defined by the management of labor - rather, it is an autonomous and independent activity that precedes and exceeds such concepts as subordinate work and wage labor. Unlike labor described by Marx, immaterial work does not need to go through waged subordination under capital in order to express its creativity and productive power.
